Salt Disaster Relief has been established in response to the bushfires, floods and COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted our community in 2020. Salt has had the opportunity to be on the front foot as first responders in these crises with practical support targeted to those who need it most.
Due to the direct impact of social isolation and the threat of the Corona virus, Salt has been quick to respond with a home delivery system, getting groceries and meals out to those who are the most vulnerable in their homes. We have also been quick to adapt our Salt Store providing pre prepared grocery hampers, including fresh fruit, veg, bread and meals for people to collect.
If you have been impacted by the bushfires that raged through the Shoalhaven in December and January we would love you to make contact with us so that we can provide you with relief and support.
When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 11am-1pm
Where: The Salt Base
Salt Store is open 3 times a week, for people who are socially disadvantaged or struggling, to give them the opportunity to collect free groceries. Each family is able to access The Salt Store once a week to help stretch the budget.
The Store receives donations from Foodbank, Second Bite, Baker’s Delight, Milkwood, South Coast Milk, Berry IGA, Flavours, and many churches, community groups, and generous individuals in the Shoalhaven. We have an amazing team of volunteers who keep the Store running each week with their friendly and generous approach to the community.
When: Saltbox is temporarily suspended due to COVID-19
Where: The Bomaderry Community Hall and the Salt Base
Saltbox is an opportunity for our local neighbours and friends who are needing a bit of extra support to gather for a meal together whilst collecting groceries and clothing, and accessing community services. It is a great place to build friendships in an environment of acceptance and positivity. Many local community service organisations visit Saltbox to make their services available and easily accessible.
Saltbox has become a vibrant connection point for many who would otherwise be isolated and struggling on their own to access vital support. Each week people leave feeling truly cared for.
Mobile Response Vehicle
The Mobile Response Vehicle provides groceries, toiletries, bedding, swags, winter woollies and other necessities to people suffering from, and at risk of homelessness. The MRV is on call to attend to anyone in need as identified by rangers, community services and concerned community members.
Work Development Orders
Work Development Orders or WDOs are an opportunity for people to volunteer to pay off their fines by volunteering for Salt each week. This is a government initiative to assist those who are unable to pay fines to make a meaningful contribution to their community in the place of payment. Salt utilises people on in the WDO program in Saltbox and our Salt Store.
