Have you ever been bushwalking in an area that has not been visited much, if at all? The path if it exists is usually overgrown, and the trek can be challenging as you attempt to forge a new way through to the destination in mind. It’s important to have the right tools to clear the path and a regular dose of encouragement to ensure you don’t give up.

Life can be like that. Whether it’s learning new skills (technology for me), breaking old patterns of behaviour or addiction, making positive changes toward employment, raising a child, or growing in our relational awareness and skill…it’s all hard going when the path is new. New muscles need to develop, old comforts must go, fortitude and endurance is usually required, and none of it can be accomplished without a vision for where you want to be on the other side.

Salt is on the forefront of supporting people in creating new pathways, in seeing the vision for the future of their life and applying the necessary strategy to accomplish it. The path is usually dense with old growth and so a whole new set of skills needs to develop a clear way through, along with a whole lot of support and encouragement to get there. Sometimes the path falters, people turn back, it feels too hard, but so often, little by little, step by step, goals get kicked and a new and hopeful vista emerges.

Some of the richest blessings the Salt team can offer clients and participants of our programs is “lived experience”. To stand before someone as the living example of what it means to have personally achieved what looked impossible, is hope and vision for every person.

Thank you for your ongoing encouragement to all of those heroes who are bravely forging new pathways.

Much love,

Meg & Pete

We had such a wonderful time representing Salt Care at the recent Disability Expo!

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with so many people from across the disability and wider community, share what Salt Care is all about, and meet some new faces.

One of the highlights of the day was having so many people stop by who already knew Salt Care and wanted to share their experiences with us. Hearing about the positive difference Salt has made for individuals and families within our community was incredibly rewarding and a lovely reminder of why we do what we do.

A big thank you to everyone who came over for a chat, said hello or shared their story with us. We loved being part of such a great community event and look forward to continuing to support and connect with people in our community.

My passion for technology and people comes together in my work at Salt. I oversee our technology, processes and information security – much of what happens behind the scenes to help our teams do their work.

Salt does wonderful work with people across our community. My part is to help build the engine room that supports it: systems that make information easier to record and find, processes that help people work together, and security that protects the information people trust us with.

Many of our forms and records are now digital. That means less reliance on bits of paper that can get lost, and better information to help us follow up, report on our work and see where we can improve.

I enjoy the technical side, but the reason it matters to me is the people. When the engine room works well, our staff and volunteers can spend more of their time doing what alt is here to do – supporting our community.

Find Out More

Salt just turned 14, and we are still a little in awe of how far we have come!

What began as a simple idea of showing up for people who needed support, has grown into something we could never have imagined. Emergency shelter, food relief, housing programs, addiction recovery, disability support, employment pathways, a wellness farm, a bookstore, a flower garden and so much more.

But the truth is, none of it is really about us. It is about this community. The volunteers who show up week after week without fail. The donors who give quietly and generously. The partners and organisations who walk alongside us. And most of all, the incredible people who have trusted us with some of the hardest moments of their lives.

We don’t take any of it for granted.

Thank you for being part of this story. Here’s to everything still to come.
