March 2025 Newsletter

Life can be incredibly difficult.

Hard things happen.

For some people, hard things have happened repeatedly.

The load can get overwhelmingly heavy.

How do we judge those who’s load is heavy?

Do we look at another person and judge them for how they are struggling under their load?

Or do we draw alongside them and ask if we can help carry the load?

Could we ask if we could smooth the path for them?

Maybe we could simply encourage them, listen to them, empathise?

Maybe they are self-medicating (because the load is so heavy), or angry (because the load is too heavy),
or depressed, anxious, fearful, rude, hopeless, unkind (because at times the load feels unbearable).

Maybe, just maybe we could look at the heavy load bearers with compassion and awareness that in different circumstances that could be me.

Every human is valuable, important, worthy of love.

Let’s be the kind of community that drops our stones and become the kind of community that lifts others up.

Salt is a place where we aim to be load lifters, burden bearers, hope givers. We aim to look for the precious in everyone and call it out in them. We want to treat others how we want to be treated, be willing to serve and care in the place of judgement.

Every life has a story,
And every life has worth.

Much love,
Pete and Meg

We are excited to welcome Brendan, our new Operations Manager, to Salt!

Brendan Latarche brings a wealth of experience and a heart for community to the Salt team. For the past 23 years, Brendan worked at Shoalhaven City Council, with a background that also spans the building industry across the UK and Australia.

Brendan spent 20 years as an Aquatic Services Coordinator, where he focused on building maintenance, staff training, customer service, and performance management. More recently, he spent three years as the Coordinator at Nowra Showground, managing the facility and working closely with community committees and stakeholders - supporting homeless and disadvantaged members of the community along the way.

Brendan is caring, compassionate, and empathetic, with a strong leadership focus. At Salt, he’s ready to put his extensive experience to work by enhancing our operations and deepening community engagement.

We’re thrilled to have Brendan on board and look forward to the positive impact he’ll have at Salt!

Salt Temporary Accommodation - Exciting New Expansion
We are thrilled to announce the opening of our 4th Temporary Accommodation (TA) house! This new addition will provide 4 more rooms for those in need, giving us the opportunity to support even more individuals who are facing homelessness.

This expansion will allow us to continue providing a safe, welcoming space for people doing it tough on the streets. With this new capacity, we can further assist our guests by connecting them with essential support services and guiding them on their journey to longer-term housing stability.
